In Mark 1:9–13, we witness the public unveiling of Jesus Christ as the Anointed King and the beginning of His mission to save sinners. At His baptism, Jesus identifies with His people, fulfills all righteousness, and is publicly affirmed by the Father as His beloved Son while the Holy Spirit descends upon Him—revealing the blessed Trinity at work in redemption. Immediately after this divine affirmation, the Spirit drives Jesus into the wilderness to face temptation from Satan. Where Adam failed and where Israel fell in the wilderness, Christ stands firm. He resists temptation, obeys the Word of God perfectly, and emerges victorious on behalf of His people.

This sermon reminds us that Jesus does not merely sympathize with our weakness—He has conquered our enemy in our place. The Anointed King is driven to battle, triumphs in obedience, and reigns even now.
